I love Tuscany and, above all, Tuscan Maremma and I found a great place to stay there: Borgo Magliano Resort, a super hotel in Maremma.
I’ve been there so many times now, for quick gateways or a week of vacation, alone, with my partner, and even with girlfriends and their dogs, and every time it was a true pleasure.
I recommend Borgo Magliano to all my friends because it is literally in the heart of Tuscany: on the Wine Road, a few tens of kilometers from the Argentario, with its crystal clear sea and its ancient fortresses, near the Maremma Natural Park with pine forests and amazing wild beaches and ideally situated to visit the beautiful Giardino dei Tarocchi in Capalbio, with sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle.
I also visited all the historic towns such as Pitigliano and Montemerano, and Saturnia, with their thermal baths. And of course, it’s also an ideal solution to do nothing by the pool!
The resort
Every stay was different to try both the charm of the typical double rooms and the comfort of its cozy flats with a view of Tuscan hills. Apartments range from studio flats, comfortable two-room apartments, and finally, large three-room apartments. They all have a kitchenette/living room and spacious double rooms and/or rooms with twin beds. When I stayed there with my girlfriends, we also found maxi kittens and bowls for their four-legged friends 🙂
The staff is always welcoming and helpful and does anything to make you feel at home.
“Punto a Capo”, the restaurant
“Punto a Capo” restaurant is actually one of the main reasons to stay there. It’s managed and handled by chef Leonardo, an amiable and passionate man.
It is in a dominant position, by the pool and overlooking Magliano and its recently restored ancient walls, and the Tuscan traditional dishes never disappoint!
I particularly love the warm focaccia served together with bread. The cellar offers a wide choice of Tuscan wines and grappas.
Lately, I’ve also read that Leonardo gives cooking classes. If you are interested in this option, I suggest you check the details when booking.
Getting to Borgo Magliano
To get around and visit Maremma you need a car, as public transport is really poor in the area. However, if you plan a relaxing stay with no visits, you can also get a train trip with a final transfer to the resort. The nearest station is Albina, about twenty kilometers, while Grosseto is about 30 kilometers away.
Arriving by car, you should take the Montiano / Magliano exit on the Aurelia. If you arrive from the south (Rome area), you will need to exit Manciano / Saturnia. As always, however, I would advise you to check the detailed route on the Via Michelin travel app.
