Yeah, this time, I’m not leaving on my own as usual, and this detail makes the trip even more special and a little scary, actually. Will I combine and manage my love for independence and the habit of having it with the desire to share emotions, experiences, and especially my passion for travel with Ale? Definitely, yes, but there’s that tiny background of fear… anyway, we will spend a month around Sri Lanka, and we are so excited.
The trip
We leave tonight with an Emirates flight from Malpensa via Dubai, and tomorrow, by lunchtime, we will be in Sri Lanka. The flight has cost € 420 each, and it was not the cheapest one, but traveling with Emirates is always very comfortable, and then we decided to spend a few days in Dubai on the way back.
Once there I will, as always, move only over land and only with local transport. This for budgetary reasons, but also to experience the country and get in touch with people, and then the slow pace, at least on vacation, is good.
The itinerary
If you have already read my post on planning a solo trip, you know that I cannot leave everything to chance, especially for purely economic issues. To properly evaluate the necessary budget for the journey and its feasibility, I planned an itinerary with the stages that I absolutely do not want to miss, even if I have no idea how many days we will spend in each town. I plan to be able to improvise…
- Negombo – first stage of the trip to relax by the sea and get acclimatized
- Sigiriya – to visit historical sites and their surroundings (Deambula, Polonnaruwa…) and relax in front of the mythical rock
- Anuradhapura – to visit Mihintale and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the town
- Kandy – for the highlight Tooth Temple, the gardens, the market, and then we’ll see. Maybe to enjoy the view and read a book
- Nuwara Eliya – for the tea’s sake! And for many other things, I hope, but for me, this is already worth the stage 😉
- Haputale – stage pro-nature, adventure, or maybe relax
- Ella – higher and higher! A stage between tea plantations, breathtaking views, and British mood
- Ratnapura – to discover the so famous gem mines and a detour in the National Park
- Yala – to hunt jaguars with my Canon and sleep in a treehouse!
- Unawatuna/Galle/Galawatta/… – meaning that we will stop somewhere in this part of the island. The plan is relaxation, sea, whales, history, turtles, shopping and more relaxation.
- Colombo – to visit the old town before flying away

Practical details?
I still don’t have any, or better, I do have some, but they are mere assumptions to be confirmed at this stage. I do not know if I will write posts during the journey to tell how it is going, but I will work for sure once back home, and I won’t skimp information, costs, pro, and against tips.
I will, however, write punctual dispatches via social networks and post tons of pics.
Till very soon!
