I am Silvia Moggia, an Italian travel writer, hotelier and tourism consultant based in Levanto, on the Ligurian coast. I write Silvia’s Trips, a personal travel blog dedicated to slow, independent travel, with a focus on Europe, the Mediterranean and longer journeys further afield. I have been travelling independently for over twenty years, and writing about it seriously since 2013.
Who I am
My background is not straightforward, and I think that shows in how I write about travel. I studied Cultural Heritage Conservation and later specialised in Cultural Mediation and Performing Arts Management in France. For several years I worked in classical music and opera administration, collaborating with institutions including the Opéra de Paris and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. I lived in Paris, Valencia, London and Oxford before returning to Italy.
That period shaped the way I approach travel: as someone interested in how places work, not just how they look. It also gave me a working knowledge of several European cities that goes well beyond tourism.
What I do now
Since returning to Liguria, I manage Oasi Eco Boutique Hotel in Levanto, a family-run property at the gateway to the Cinque Terre National Park. Running a hotel gives me a perspective on travel that most bloggers lack: I know what makes a stay actually good, and I know what tends to go wrong behind the scenes.
Alongside the hotel, I work as a tourism consultant and data storyteller, specialised in marketing and communication strategies for destinations and tourism brands. I also edit Officina Turistica, a multi-author blog covering tourism trends, hospitality, destination management and transport, aimed at industry professionals.

What Silvia’s Trips covers
The blog is built around a few consistent areas of interest rather than geographic breadth for its own sake:
Slow travel and independent itineraries across Europe, with particular depth on Italy, France, Spain and the Nordic countries. Horse-riding holidays and equestrian travel, based on personal experience across Argentina, Andalusia, Arizona and beyond. Sailing holidays, particularly in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Cultural travel, including opera houses, museums, heritage cities and literary destinations. Practical guides to destinations I have visited repeatedly, often over many years.
I also write about Africa, a continent I have been drawn to since early on, and about Latin America, where I have travelled extensively and published a printed guidebook on north-west Argentina.
How I work
I believe travel is not about ticking boxes, but about learning to read a place. This means walking, observing, asking questions, making mistakes, and sometimes staying longer than planned. I am particularly drawn to cities in winter, marginal areas, islands, border regions and destinations that reveal themselves slowly.
Africa holds a special place in my travel imagination, rooted in early readings and later journeys. At the same time, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and Latin America remain constant reference points in my work.
Where else to find my work
On LinkedIn, I publish the newsletter Viaggi Digitali, on the intersection of tourism, data and digital transformation. On Officina Turistica I write and commission content for tourism professionals. My travel photography is released under a Creative Commons licence for non-commercial use with attribution.
