Finding the right international travel insurance is mandatory, especially when travelling solo and independently.

I recently discovered and tested “Nomad Insurance,” a travel medical insurance policy that covers people from all over the world while they are outside their home country. It offers continuous coverage across 180+ countries, and it’s hassle-free.

*Please note that U.S. coverage is extra, and they don’t cover high-risk or professional sports activity, pre-existing conditions, cancer treatment, lost or stolen personal belongings, or cancelled trips before you leave.

As a digital nomad or a solo traveller, staying protected while on the go is crucial. Before your next adventure, make sure you get good travel insurance. Whether you’re hopping from one country to another or settling down in a new location for a bit of remote working, like I did in Japan or, more recently, in Norway, being adequately insured will give you peace of mind and let you focus on what matters—your incredible journey.

The benefits of auto-extending the policy every 28 days

Safety Wing’s Nomad Insurance auto-extension feature is a convenient and cost-effective solution for digital nomads or frequent travellers who travel for more than four weeks or make multiple trips throughout the year. I took advantage of it during my Norwegian experience, and it ensures continuous coverage without needing upfront payments, giving you control over your insurance needs and peace of mind during your travels.

With this policy, you don’t have to pay upfront for 30 days of home-country coverage for every 90 days abroad, providing you with the flexibility you need for your unique travel schedule. After 364 days of continuous coverage, your following policy can cover illness or injury that began during that period but hadn’t yet seen a doctor (as long as it’s not a general exclusion, considered untreatable, or will worsen with time). Usually, any symptoms you experience would be viewed as a pre-existing condition and not covered in future policies.

You can quickly stop your auto-extensions anytime through your dashboard or by contacting Customer Care.

Regular health coverage

Safety Wing also offers “Nomad Health,” a fully comprehensive health coverage in your country of residence and anywhere you travel, but I didn’t check it out.
