Levanto is often described as “the gateway to the Cinque Terre”. Which is true, technically. But it is also a real town with its own rhythm, its own history, and that rare luxury of still feeling lived-in even when the rest of the coastline is in full performance mode.
This is exactly why I created my Levanto Walking Tour: a relaxed, late-afternoon walk that helps you understand what Levanto is, beyond the train station and the beach umbrellas. It is an easy experience, designed to fit naturally into your day, especially if you want to keep mornings for the sea and afternoons for discovery.
I host the tour as part of the experiences at my Oasi Eco Boutique Hotel in Levanto, and it is one of my favourite ways to introduce guests to the town I call home.

When the walking tour takes place
The tour runs during the months when Levanto is at its best: lively, sunny, but still capable of quiet corners.
- Season: April to November
- Days: Thursday to Sunday
- Time: Late afternoon
The exact start time varies depending on daylight and summer temperatures, because in Liguria we are smart enough not to force anyone to walk in full heat if we can avoid it.
It is the perfect slot: the light is softer, the town feels more relaxed, and by the end of the walk you are exactly where you want to be for an aperitivo or dinner.
Why a walking tour in Levanto is worth it
Levanto is the kind of place that seems simple at first glance. Beach, promenade, cafés, a historic centre, a few churches. Easy.
Then you slow down and notice details: carved portals, hidden courtyards, old signs, the way the town opens and closes between sea and hills, and how the locals move through it with that calm confidence of people who live in a beautiful place and do not need to prove it.
This tour is not about ticking off monuments. It is about learning how to read Levanto properly.

What you will see and do
The route can vary slightly depending on the season and the group’s pace, but the spirit remains the same: a mix of coastal atmosphere, village life and local history.
Levanto’s historic centre
We walk through the old town, where Levanto still shows its medieval roots and its Ligurian architecture. I point out the details people often miss: small inscriptions, local building styles, quiet corners you would not necessarily find on your own.
The sea, the promenade and the “Levanto mood”
Levanto’s relationship with the sea is obvious, but what I love is how different it feels at different hours. Late afternoon is when the town switches from beach mode to evening mode, and you can literally feel that shift happening.
Stories that connect Levanto to the wider territory
Levanto has always been a point of passage. Between inland routes and the coast, between Cinque Terre and the rest of Liguria. I share the kind of context that makes your next day trips easier to understand, whether you are heading to Bonassola, Framura, Genoa or the Cinque Terre villages.
Practical local tips, the ones you actually use
I always include suggestions on:
- how to structure your days between Levanto and Cinque Terre without rushing
- where to go for a relaxed aperitivo
- what to do if you want a quieter swim, a scenic walk, or a simple local dinner
- how to avoid the most stressful time slots on trains and in the busiest villages
My goal is that you finish the tour feeling oriented, confident, and more connected to the place.

Who this tour is for
This Levanto walking tour is ideal if you are:
- staying in Levanto and want to understand the town beyond the surface
- using Levanto as a base for Cinque Terre, and would like a local perspective
- a solo traveller who enjoys slow discovery and small stories
- travelling as a couple or with friends and want an easy, social experience in the late afternoon
It is not strenuous. It is not a hike. Think of it as the best kind of cultural walk: light, human, and full of context.
How to plan the perfect Levanto day around the tour
This is my favourite combo, and it is also how many guests naturally organise themselves:
- Morning: beach time, a slow breakfast, or a short coastal walk
- Early afternoon: rest, shower, maybe a book, maybe gelato
- Late afternoon: Levanto Walking Tour
- Evening: aperitivo, dinner, and the quiet satisfaction of not having rushed anything
If you are doing Cinque Terre the next day, this tour also helps you plan it more intelligently, including the golden hours locals prefer: early morning and late afternoon into the evening.
A small note on what I love most about this walk
Levanto has an understated beauty. It does not shout. It does not pose. It just is.
And when you walk through it in the late afternoon, with the light dropping, the air softer, and the town easing into the evening, you understand why some of us choose to stay here, build a life here, and keep coming back to the same corners again and again.
That is the feeling I want you to take with you.
